What is a DOI?

ABSTRACT

We identify the performance aspects of restart and recovery. We present a model describing the relationships between the errors in information processing systems, the procedures needed to recover from the errors and the actions necessary to make the recovery procedures feasible. We define restart and recovery policies and discuss some of the important criteria that may be used to evaluate these policies. We present some results obtained by the application of a particular objective function and show the feasibility of marginal cost analysis that can be made by an operations manager.
