ABSTRACT

Ball State University has been diligent in encouraging and assisting faculty and staff to maintain a high level of knowledge and skills through continuous technology training. In an effort to keep pace with the infusion of new technologies in our classrooms, offices, and labs a training survey was administered to faculty and staff to determine the types of training appropriate to meet the needs of the university community. Once the needs were identified marketing methods were developed to increase faculty and staff awareness, to provide practical training courses, and to raise interest level. The challenges are to market the new training options to as many clients as possible, to continuously market the training throughout the year, to collect and evaluate feed back on training sessions, and to model the use of new technologies. In addition to the use of these new technologies in the training lab environment, marketing and modeling the courses through a Web page banner, a video story, brochures, handouts, communication to new faculty, and online valuation are bold new steps for University Computing Services. The proposed session is directed at trainers and anyone interested in promoting training. This session will take the following format:

  • A PowerPoint presentation
  • Demonstration of marketing methods on the Web
  • Handouts of presentation materials
  • A question and answer discussion period
