ABSTRACT

Singingfish.com uses MPEG-7 description schemes to model the metadata characteristics of Internet streaming media. Further it has used MPEG-7 description schemes as the basis for a number of internal experiments, processes, as well as interchange with commercial content partners. This paper describes our selection of description schemes from the MPEG-7 Multimedia Description Schemes (MDS) Working Drafts, their ability (or lack thereof) to represent Internet streaming media metadata, and our experiences (successes and failures) in using MPEG-7 DS's in various applications critical to building an Internet streaming media search engine.
