ABSTRACT

3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) broadband mobile wireless network has been put in place to support diverse IP based traffic such as voice, data and multimedia. In order to support the various integrated services and the ever growing multimedia applications with guaranteed quality of service (QoS), a resource provisioning mechanism is becoming a major demand. Call Admission Control (CAC) is one of the main resource management components that limit the number of connections to the system capacity and guarantee the QoS of ingoing calls. In this paper, we propose a novel CAC algorithm that considers admission of calls for future startup. We consider also the immediate and handoff calls with certain priority admission scheme. We then use a stochastic discrete-event simulator to evaluate the performance of the CAC algorithm. The results obtained for look-ahead admission are compelling and indicate the usefulness of making advance resource reservations.
