ABSTRACT

In traditional information retrieval, relevance is often judged by comparing the similarity of text in a query to the text of a document returned, reflecting a context-independent relevance relation. But mobile search calls for an expanded approach to assessing similarity and relevance---an approach that is highly attuned to the context-dependent factors that occur when people leave their desks and begin requesting information from different environments and perspectives.
