ABSTRACT

Role-based access control (RBAC) first appeared in the early 1990s. Since then, a lot of theoretical and practical research has been completed. We will discuss the origins of RBAC, survey some of the variations of RBAC and the research results obtained. we will then look at how it is being used today, and speculate on its future.
