ABSTRACT
Wireless communication is particularly powerful in vehicular networks because it implies the possibility to avoid accidents and casualties. For this purpose, a Car-to-Car (C2C) communication system has to provide distributed information management. For example, it has to enable the publication of a black ice warning with respect to a particular region. Afterwards, it has to guarantee its availability for the duration of its validity. This paper introduces the adaptation of peer-to-peer (P2P) mechanisms for these functionalities. Their application in C2C communication systems is challenging due to network-specific characteristics. For adaptation, the vehicular network is divided into segments which form separate, interacting P2P networks. Information is managed in a distributed manner within these segments and exchanged between neighbouring segments if necessary. The proposed solution enables C2C applications to publish information referring to certain areas or validity durations. In addition, they can request, modify and delete this information. Thereby, no knowledge about the network segmentation is required.
