ABSTRACT
Video coding is a key technology behind the deployment of many devices, and services largely used nowadays around the world. After the first major developments in the 90s, recent years have seen the emergence of new needs, technologies and standards in the video coding domain. This paper intends to review the recent achievements in video coding technology and analyze the rising trends, highlighting problems and research directions.
