ABSTRACT

Conventionally, hardware monitoring has been performed using manually controlled off-line devices. It is suggested that a hardware monitor incorporating program control and acting as an intelligent peripheral device would realize greater utility and wider application. The development and application of such a device is described; a combination of the merits of both software and hardware monitoring techniques is claimed for it.
