ABSTRACT

Most computer installations maintain a subroutine library to support the needs of their users. As these libraries grow larger, it becomes increasingly evident that some sort of organization of them is needed--even more than a library of books. One aid in organizing software inventories is a classification scheme, and the most widely used such system is the "old" SHARE system. However, this system has several major defects. A new scheme is proposed which attempts to remedy these defects, and which maintains some degree of compatibility with the present scheme.
