ABSTRACT

In this panel the difficulties of academia and practitioners to connect and talk to each other are discussed. Both groups have their own terms, problems, norms and cultures. In e-government research these gaps needs to be bridged. After all, research in e-government is often aimed at developing concepts and theories that are aimed at solving problems as found in practice. Consequently, the results of this research should be used by practitioners. In turn, the use by practitioners should provide feedback to research to improve their concepts and theories.

The panel will involve researchers from Universities in the USA and Europe and practitioners working for national agencies and ministries. In this panel, the main challenges for connecting researchers and practitioners will be discussed. Also simple solutions to bridge the gap between the two communities will be presented and discussed.
