ABSTRACT
This paper discusses an undergraduate research and mentoring program in Computer Science at Xavier University of Louisiana. This three-year program is a part of the GE Fund's Faculty for the Future Program designed to encourage and motivate students to attend graduate school and choose a career in academia. Six students were selected at the end of their sophomore year and matched with a faculty mentor who directed their research project. Each student was expected to attend a summer research program and take GRE preparation classes, and was encouraged to write and present a research paper. The students and faculty mentors met regularly to discuss their research progress. In addition, students met monthly with the project director to discuss issues related to the program.
